Jaya The Cat » Biography
Jaya the Cat was founded in Boston, Massachusetts in the mid 90's by Geoff Lagadec (vocals), Dave Smith (guitar) and Ben Murphy (bass). In 1997 the band moved shortly to San Francisco, but soon returned back to their hometown, where they gained popularity and won the "Best ska band" title in Massachusetts, as well as a nomination for :Best ska band" at he the Boston Music Awards . In 2001 the trio having changed several drummers/ signed with the Gold Circle label, which released their debut album "Basement style" (August 2001) In 2002 the band moved to Europe where it was joined by the ex-"Shadows Fall" drummer David Germain, also known as The Germ.
In 2003 Jaya the Cat released "First beer of a new day" album. By the time Dave Smith and Ben Murphy, had left the band and Geoff and The Germ continued working mainly with guest musicians. One of the musicians frequently joining the band on their live shows is the Artery frontman Yanko Brekov on guitar
Nearly two months ago, at the middle of November 2007, the third album titled "More Late Night Transmissions with Jaya The Cat" was released. At present, the band officially has five members - Geoff /vocals guitar/The Germ /drums/, Jan Jaap /keyboard, bass/, Steven /bass/ and Pockets /guitars/.
