Panican Whyasker » Биография
PanicanWhyasker is an alternative rock band formed in 1999 in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2000, the band released their first album, R'N'R Coma, which was nominated and won the award for the Best Debut at the Bulgarian Music TV (MM) Annual Awards Show the same year. Their follow-up album, entitled Digital Zombie, came out in 2001. It showed Panican's tendency to work towards a heavier sound. The album won the award for the Best Rock Album at the MM Awards show in 2002. The following year PanicanWhyasker started working on their third album, called Eastern European Monkeys. Written and recorded by the end of 2004, it was released in the summer of 2005 and once again won the award for the Best Rock Album at the MM Awards show the following year. Unlike their previous two albums, Panican's latest album contains 10 songs written entirely in English. With this album the band has finally defined themselves as a purely rock-sounding band.
Over the last six years, the band has played extensively in clubs and at festivals all over Bulgaria. The band took part in the Cube Festival in Sozopol (2003) and the Cube Festival Sofia (2004). Their career highlight so far was in April 2004 when they supported American alternative-rock legends Living Colour at their gig in Sofia, which was part of their world tour. This was followed by opening acts for Fun Loving Criminals (February 2006, Winter Palace, Sofia) and producer Billy Gould's (Faith No More) La Plebe (the Tangra Rock Radio Festival, June 2006, The Black Box, Sofia).
At the beginning of 2006, the band's original bass player, Sasho Yanev, left the band and was replaced by Marto, who had played with various Sofia-based bands such as Subtierra, Bad Habit and Awake.
For the last three years, the band's drummer, Dakata, has also been gaining touring experience at European clubs and festivals with the Bulgarian ska-punk band Wickeda.
Nufry is also a member of the Bulgarian D&B band R.O.B.T.F., whose latest album Eco-Teleporter has been well-received by local and foreign audiences alike (London's Brixton Telegraph, April 2006).
Panican Whyasker is a band whose potential is fully realized at live performances where you could experience a mixture of aggressive sound and charismatic interaction with the audience backed up by on-stage multi-media.
The band is currently rehearsing and working on new songs for their upcoming fourth album.
